Trump's Pledge for Pristine Water - Can He Wave Away PFAS Pollution? [SWOP NEWS]

The Fate of 'Forever Chemicals' in U.S Drinking Water:

Our little tap water companions, referred to as 'forever chemicals' or PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), are raising concern among public health advocates as they suspect federal efforts for clean water could be hindered under Trump's presidency. These chemicals are common guests in most American's tap water and could pose significant health risks linked to cancer, among other illnesses.

Biden's Landmark Move and Trump's Anticipated Response:

Evidently, efforts to discourage the presence of these unwelcome guests have been considerable. Earlier this year, President Biden ushered in an order for utilities to start clearing six types of PFAS from the nation's drinking water. However, this move was sternly countered by chemical companies who filed lawsuits and are now expected to lobby the Trump administration for a swift repeal of the order.

An Unsettling Future for Clean Water:

Many are concerned about this potential rollback on clean water protections. Erik Olson, an environmental health overseer at the Natural Resources Defense Council, expressed concern stating, "Attacking basic fundamental protections, like the safety of people's tap water, would be unprecedented." As the public's awareness of these concerns grows, many are sceptical of welcoming toxic chemicals into their daily drinking water. After all, nobody voted for an extra serving of chemicals with their morning coffee!
